A striking, more “rebellious” approach in denim trends is the patchwork style, introduced in fashion by Chloé spring 2010 runway show (a pair of patched blue jeans teamed with a denim shirt) and made popular by Isabel Marant’s fall-winter 2011 collection with her denim mélange pieces. For spring 2013 Phillip Lim continues this trend 'with three wardrobe staples: the jeans, the shirt and the short summer dress. The smooth finishings make these denim pieces look more like color-block prints. Paris-based creative studio Surface to Air also hop on this trend with more subtle pastel hues.

The mixing denim of fabrics and washes is a remaining trend for next spring, as seen in resort 2014 collections of labels like Alexander McQueen (rough-edged patchwork double denim designs) and on-the-rise New York-based Jonathan Simkhai (smooth color block denim).

Decorated denim is another trend on rise, laser prints (floral, paisley motifs or lace trompe l’oeil effects) have been displayed by pre-fall 2013 and resort 2014 collections while designer Phillip Lim proposes motoring patches on denim jeans and jumpsuits, teamed with leather jacket or leather vest for a chic biker look; apparently this style is big thing for 2013 fall season.
