"I tried to capture within all the dresses and styling the ancient essence of the contradiction between purity and impurity. Giving slightly more power to the impure side because just like the sinners I like to think I can break the rules of life!"

In Berlin with Nina Reijnders

An oldie but goldie: I love this street punk vibed Marie Claire Turkey editorial from 2010 called "Berlin in Berlin". Shot by Turkish fashion photographer/film maker Koray Birand, styled by Hakan Ozturk and starring Dutch model Nina Reijnders the images are still relevant today. Having previously worked as Director of Photography in advertising Koray Birand knows how to make best use of settings and photo techniques to create a mood.

Erwin Olaf, the shocking factor in fashion imagery

The work of Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf (b. 1959,  Hilversum) is often daring and provocative, dealing with social conventions and taboos in a clever, highly stylized way. A former student of Journalism, as he declared for Vogue Italy recently, he felt the need to fabricate his own reality through imagery rather than documenting it.

The latest collaborations with the fashion world are the mildest exhibits of the photographer's inner turmoil and include fashion editorials in Grey magazine, Vogue Netherlands, Jalouse magazine and the advertising campaign for Italian label Bottega Veneta for the fall/winter 2013 season. Erwin Olaf's fashion photography is a showcase for his refined portraiture skills, using his unique aesthetic flair in managing colors, patterns and lights, creating dramatic moods, often surrealistic, austere, with renaissance and baroque influences.

You will understand more about Pavesi’s work with a quote from the photographer’s interview featured in Self Service magazine Spring/Summer 2012 issue: “I don’t like riches that aren’t accompanied by thought, and I don’t like bourgeoisie if it becomes narrow-minded and uncultured. I like mystery; I don’t like affection. All those things that come from it don’t interest me. People feel safe in affection. And I’m always looking for, and intrigued by, content. I love the unconventional and I’m always looking for it.”

A Dance is a fashionable movement

Ballet inspired fashion is one of biggest news this season in womenswear with sheer flowing dresses and flouncy skirts so if you want to achieve this graceful look you should go to the source of this trend and study the ethereal elegance of prima ballerinas. A ballet photography book is a must-have for fashion lovers and stylists wannabes especially one that looks through a century of ballet shows such as A Dance by Alexander Barabanov.

Ines Crnokrak photographed by Jacque Dequeker

Who said high fashion is not for winter? Take a look at this fabulous photo story shot by Brazilian fashion photographer Jacques Dequeker and starring Serbian model Ines Crnokrak. The sleek humour of these images is given by the clash between snowy mountain settings and high-end clothes and accessories. In one of the images Ines goes in a poodle-drawn sleigh ride, dressed in a flowing silk leopard-print gown and in another picture she is skiing in platform heels.

Anyone who is in love with childhood fairy tales and bizarre circus stories will adore this fashion pictorial published in the December 2010 issue of W Magazine. Starring roles have doll-faced Lindsey Wixson, Canadian-born Anais Pouliot as well as the new-in-business It-models Arizona Muse who poses with her baby-son Nikko and Swedish-born Britt Maren.
