"Mode:Bilder" - more than fashion photography

The Mode:Bilder fashion photography exhibition is being held at NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft in Düsseldorf until March 24. This should definitely be on your 'must visit' list.

The exhibition features works from almost 100 photographers: nearly 400 photos covering more than 160 years of fashion photography (from 1843 to 2006).

These pictures, carefully selected by photographer and collector F.C. Gundlach, aim at changing the general view over fashion photography. There are more than mere images of clothing, as the beauty of fashion lies in self expression, in unique personal style. The new inspiration comes both from the street and the internet.

The exhibition features two different parts: the era of elegance with images from the Belle Epoque, the 20s and 30s in Germany and ending with great black-and-white photographs by Richard Avedon. The second half, the era of eccentricity, begins with contrasting revolutionary works of Guy Bourdin.
